How the plan works

A deposit, then equal monthly direct debits. No interest, no finance company, nothing added on top.

1

Deposit to start

Usually around $2,200 and flexible. Treatment begins once it is paid, with no large lump sum to find.

2

Equal monthly payments

The balance is split evenly across the treatment and collected by direct debit, so you know exactly what leaves your account each month.

3

0% interest, in-house

The plan runs between you and Milk. No third party, no interest, no application, no credit check.

4

Everything covered

Records, appliances, every appointment, repairs, retainers and aftercare are all inside the one fee the plan is spreading.

What it works out to

Per week, on the in-house plan.

Why not a finance company

Buy-now-pay-later and dental finance are easy to sign and expensive to keep.

Interest or fees

Third-party plans charge interest, establishment fees or merchant fees that end up in the price. In-house at 0% adds nothing.

A credit application

Finance means an application and a credit check. The in-house plan needs neither.

Flexibility

If life changes mid-treatment, you are talking to us, not a lender. We adjust the plan.

Insurance and funding

Southern Cross

Milk is a Southern Cross Affiliated Provider. Some policies carry an orthodontic benefit; check yours before the consultation.

Public funding

Only the most severe conditions qualify for hospital orthodontics in NZ, and the free dental care under 18 does not include braces. Details on the funding page.

Work and Income

Dental grants target essential dental treatment and rarely cover orthodontics. Worth asking, not worth counting on.

Answered honestly

How do braces payment plans work in NZ?

Almost every orthodontic plan is a deposit followed by equal monthly payments across the treatment. At Milk the deposit is usually around $2,200 and is flexible, the balance is collected by direct debit with no interest, and there is no finance company, so nothing is added on top of the fee.

How much are braces per week on a plan?

Roughly $60 to $76 a week at Milk, depending on the plan length and how involved the case is. Simple treatment from $7,900 sits at the lower end; comprehensive treatment from $9,900 at the upper end.

Is there a credit check?

No. The plan is run in-house between you and the practice. There is no application to a finance company and no credit check.

Can I change the deposit?

Yes. A larger deposit lowers the monthly amount; a smaller one raises it. We set the deposit and the monthly figure to suit your household at the free Smile Assessment.

What if I pay in full?

$500 off comprehensive braces or clear aligner treatment when you settle the fee upfront.

Is there a discount for a second child?

Yes. If an immediate family member is in treatment or has been in the last three years, the second family member gets $200 off and each one after that gets $300 off.

Can I use Afterpay, Q Card or a finance company?

You do not need to. Third-party finance adds interest or fees for someone else's profit. The in-house plan spreads the same fee at 0% with nothing added.

Does the plan cover everything?

Yes. The monthly payment covers the all-inclusive fee: records, appliances, every appointment, repairs, retainers and aftercare. The only separate charge is the $390 New Patient Consultation at the start.

Does Southern Cross cover braces?

Milk is a Southern Cross Affiliated Provider. Some policies carry an orthodontic benefit; check your policy before the consultation and we will help with the paperwork.
