– Not quite sure
about your plan?
Let's take a look.
Orthodontic treatment is a big investment in time and money, so it's completely reasonable to want a specialist's view before you commit. Bring us your quote or plan from anywhere. Your first step, a Smile Assessment, is free. A full specialist second opinion, with a proper diagnosis and a written plan, is a paid appointment, and we'll always tell you the cost before anything goes ahead.
No obligation. No hard sell. Just clarity.
Founded and led by specialist orthodontist Dr Shaz MacAvoy. Your assessment is always with a registered specialist orthodontist.
Common reasons people come to us for a second opinion
You've been quoted a lot of money and want to be sure it's the right plan before committing.
You've been told you need extractions, surgery, or a long treatment and want to know if there's another way.
You were seen by a general dentist and want a specialist orthodontist's perspective.
You're choosing between braces and clear aligners (such as Invisalign) and aren't sure which is genuinely best for you.
Your treatment elsewhere has stalled, or you're moving and need to transfer your care.
Something just doesn't feel right, and you'd like a clear, unrushed explanation.
A specialist's honest read
A real assessment
A specialist orthodontist looks at your situation, not a sales script. If your existing plan is sound, we'll tell you so.
Clear, simple answers
We'll explain what's going on with your teeth, what your options are, and the trade-offs of each, in language that makes sense.
Clear next steps
You'll leave knowing where you stand and what you'd do next, whether that's with us or not.
Begin with a Free Smile Assessment
The easiest first step, in clinic or on Zoom, whichever suits. From there, a full specialist work-up is $390. If you already have some suitable records from elsewhere, we can often do it for $190, decided case by case once our specialist has seen what you have.
In-clinic or Zoom · ~20 min
Your Free Smile Assessment includes
- A relaxed chat with our Treatment Coordinator about your concerns
- A look at the plan or quote you've already been given
- If you bring an existing plan and records, our specialist orthodontist takes a brief look and says whether a deeper review is worth it
- An honest sense of whether a full specialist review would help
- No obligation to proceed, and no pressure either way
Had scans or a plan done elsewhere? You won't pay twice.
A second opinion is only as good as the specialist reading it. Your records show what is happening, our specialist orthodontist tells you what it means and what your real options are. If you already have some suitable records, we credit that toward your specialist work-up, even if we need to top up one or two.
We take the full set of records here
- A full set of specialist diagnostic records, taken at Milk
- Diagnosis by a specialist orthodontist
- A written treatment plan with your real options and a quote
When you already have some suitable records
- Our specialist reviews the suitable records you bring
- If one or two things are missing, we take just those, and it stays $190
- The same specialist diagnosis and written plan
Our specialist orthodontist checks your records first and decides what is suitable, case by case. If you have some good, recent records to build on, the $190 review applies, and if one or two things are missing or need updating, we simply take those here and it stays $190. The full $390 work-up is for when there are no usable records yet and we take the complete set from scratch. Either way, we only ever use records that are accurate and current, so your diagnosis stays safe.
Useful records to bring (you don't need them all):
Bring whatever you have. Our specialist will say what is usable and whether anything needs topping up, and in most cases a few additions still fall under the $190 review.
We came to Milk for a second opinion when we weren't 100% sure about this big investment after consultations elsewhere. A year on, our daughter's treatment is done, and we couldn't be happier with the process, the communication and the care.
Second opinion FAQs
Will you just tell me to switch to you?
No. If the plan you've been given is appropriate, we'll say so honestly. Our goal is for you to feel clear and confident, wherever you choose to be treated.
Should I bring anything?
If you have them, bring your treatment plan, quote, and any x-rays or scans from your previous provider. If not, no problem, we can take whatever's needed.
Is there any cost?
The Smile Assessment is free. A full specialist examination with diagnostic records and a written plan is $390. If you already have some suitable records from another provider, it is usually $190, decided case by case, and if we need to top up one or two records it stays $190 rather than the full price.
I already had x-rays or a scan done elsewhere. Can you use them?
Often yes. If you have some suitable, recent records, our specialist can review them and your work-up is usually $190 instead of $390. If one or two things are missing or need updating, we simply take those here, and in most cases it still stays $190. Our specialist decides what is usable case by case.
Can I do this on Zoom?
Yes. Many people start with a Zoom Smile Assessment for convenience, then come in only if a full examination is the right next step.
Get the clarity to decide with confidence
A specialist second opinion could confirm you're on the right track, or open up an option you hadn't been offered. Either way, you'll know.
