What happens at the free visit

1. We look

Our Treatment Coordinator looks at your child's teeth and bite and takes a few photos. There are no X-rays at this visit and nothing that hurts.

2. We explain

You hear, in plain words, what we can see: whether things are developing normally, whether something is worth watching, or whether a specialist look is the right next step.

3. You decide

If treatment looks worthwhile you get a cost guide and the option to book the specialist consultation. If it is too early, we check again in a year, at no charge.

Answered honestly

Is the orthodontic consultation really free?

Yes. The first visit for a child or teenager is a free 20 minute Smile Assessment with our Treatment Coordinator. There is no fee, no referral needed and no obligation to go further.

Do I need a referral from my dentist?

No. Anyone can book directly with a specialist orthodontist in New Zealand. If your dentist has suggested a check, that is a good prompt, but you do not need a letter.

What is the difference between the free visit and the $390 consultation?

The free Smile Assessment is a first look with our Treatment Coordinator: photos, a look at the teeth and bite, honest advice on whether and when treatment is worthwhile, and a cost guide. The $390 consultation is the specialist visit with Dr Shaz: full records including X-rays, a diagnosis, a written treatment plan and an exact all-inclusive quote.

Can we skip the free visit and book the specialist consultation directly?

Yes. If you already know treatment is likely, or you want a second opinion on a plan from elsewhere, book the $390 specialist consultation straight away.

How long does the free consultation take?

About 20 minutes. Allow a little longer on your first visit for a short form and a look around the clinic.

What should we bring?

Just your child. If you have a recent X-ray from your dentist or a treatment plan from another practice, bring that too, but it is not required.

Can adults book a free consultation?

Adults start with our free online Smile Assessment, which gives you a specialist-reviewed answer from your own photos. If you would rather talk it through, call us on (09) 520 1880.

Which clinic should we book?

Whichever suits you. Newmarket is at Suite 27, 2 Nuffield Street. Albany is at 6 Munroe Lane, currently by appointment on Wednesdays with more hours coming. You can switch between clinics at any time.
