Typical Invisalign prices in NZ, and Milk's clear aligner fees
The New Zealand Association of Orthodontists publishes typical ranges for a full course of treatment. Aligners of any brand sit in the same band, because the price follows the complexity of the teeth, not the logo on the box.

Three things change a clear aligner fee, and none of them is marketing
Complexity
Crowding, spacing, rotations and bite problems all change how much tooth movement is planned. Aligning a few front teeth sits at the low end. Correcting how the teeth meet sits higher.
Treatment length
Longer treatments mean more aligner stages, more refinements and more appointments to supervise them. Most comprehensive cases run 12 to 24 months.
What is included
Records and 3D scans, refinements, retainers and reviews are often extras on a low headline price. At Milk every one of them is inside the fee, so the number you are quoted is the number you pay.

Clear aligner treatment, step by step
Whatever the brand on the box, specialist aligner treatment follows the same path, and the fee covers all of it.
Records and diagnosis
Photographs, x-rays and a 3D scan of your teeth, then Dr Shaz's diagnosis of how the teeth and jaws fit together and whether aligners can deliver the result, or braces would do it better. This is the step a software plan cannot replace.
The plan
The specialist plans every tooth movement stage by stage and decides where small tooth-coloured attachments are needed to give the aligners grip. You see the projected result and the number of trays before anything is made.
Wearing the trays
Each set of aligners is worn about 22 hours a day and changed at home every one to two weeks. Reviews at Newmarket or Albany run every six to ten weeks to check progress, and a refinement set is made partway through if some teeth need a nudge. Refinements are included in Milk's fee.
Finish and retention
Attachments come off, and retainers are fitted the same week, because teeth drift without them. Retainers and the retention checks that follow are included, and most comprehensive cases take 12 to 18 months from the first tray to the last.
Invisalign or Angel Aligners: what actually differs
Less than the advertising suggests. Both are clear, removable, custom-made trays cut from a similar thermoplastic and changed on a similar schedule. The differences that matter to your result are who plans the case and what the fee includes.
The material and the lab
Invisalign trays are made by Align Technology in its own material; Angel Aligners are made by Angelalign in theirs. Both are medical-grade, clear, and trimmed to the gum line. Patients rarely notice a difference in comfort or visibility.
The planning
Each brand has its own planning software, but the software proposes and the clinician disposes. At Milk, Dr Shaz reviews and adjusts every stage of the plan herself, which is the part of the treatment that decides the result. The same specialist judgement would apply whichever brand were used.
The fee
Brand does not set the price; complexity and inclusions do. Milk's clear aligner fees are the same as for braces of the same complexity, from $7,900 for simple cosmetic treatment and from $9,900 for comprehensive treatment, all-inclusive. Why one aligner quote is $7,900 and another is $10,400
Aligner fees are set by the work the teeth need, not by the brand. These are the things Dr Shaz weighs when she quotes.
How far the teeth have to move. Closing a small gap or tidying mild crowding at the front is a short case with fewer trays. Correcting a bite, rotating molars or making room for crowded teeth means more stages, more attachments and more reviews.
One arch or both. Occasionally only the lower front teeth need work, which keeps a case short. Most treatment involves both arches so the bite finishes evenly, which is the default in every comprehensive quote.
Whether extra steps are needed. Some cases need small elastics, a short period of braces on a few teeth, or work with your dentist on a crown or implant space. These are planned and priced up front, never added later.
Age and growth. Teenagers still growing can sometimes have a bite corrected with aligners and elastics that would need surgery in an adult, which changes both the plan and the price. Adults with older dental work, crowns or a missing tooth need the plan built around that, and the quote reflects the extra planning rather than the trays.
What the fee includes. Milk's fee covers records, every tray including refinements, all appointments, retainers and aftercare. A lower headline price that excludes refinements or retainers usually costs more by the end, so compare the full list before you compare the number.

The brand is the least important part of the result; the diagnosis and the plan are what you are paying for.
Why do Invisalign quotes vary so much?
Three things move the price: how complex the case is, how long treatment takes, and what is included. A low headline price often covers a limited number of aligners with records, refinements, retainers or reviews charged separately. When you compare quotes, compare what is included and who is planning the treatment.
Is Invisalign cheaper at a dentist than at an orthodontist?
Sometimes the headline price is lower, because dentists often treat milder cases with limited aligner packages. For the same comprehensive case the fees are usually similar, and a specialist plan includes the diagnosis behind the appliance: knowing when aligners will work, when they will not, and what to do when a case does not go to plan.
Can I pay for clear aligners in instalments?
Yes. At Milk you can spread the cost interest-free: a deposit of usually around $2,200 which is flexible, then equal monthly direct debits over about 18 months at 0% interest, which works out around $60 to $76 a week for most people. Paying in full saves $500 on comprehensive treatment, and family discounts apply for a second and third family member.
Are clear aligners more expensive than braces?
Not usually. Specialist treatment is priced on the clinical work involved, not the visibility of the appliance. A comprehensive case is a comprehensive case whether it is treated with aligners or braces, so at Milk the fee ranges are the same for both.
